Said Too Much

In the days leading up to our first real kiss,

You threw the word love around

Like there was too much of it inside you

For you to know what to do with it

But they told me that when something is said too much

It often loses meaning

And when you told me that I had set you free

They told me that I only know how to love caged birds

And bring down the ones that fly too high

In the weeks leading up to our last, last kiss

You placed the word forever

In every corner of my body

Like it was the first drop of rain

After a dry spell on your tongue

But they told me that when something is said too much

It is often lost
